This was my first painting using clippings as the extra-dimentional object. The words on the painting, I hoped would express that which the colors and brush strokes alone could not. I wanted to portray the downtown nightlife. I saw... Jazz music. Lots of it. I strayed from colors like black, and stuck with rich reds and golds, colors that expressed a carefree, culture-filled Saturday night downtown! This is the one that started a whole new series of paintings using clipped-out words as the theme. The following night, I sat with an old paper and a pair of scissors. I cut out all emotive words I could find. I was looking for: 'one-word expressions'. Just A word that says it all. I found a lot. I separated the resultant clippings into plastic bags labeled "Life", "family", "crime"... and so forth. I know this line of paintings can be great. I hope that they can be something that speaks to a lot of people.
